Is it just me, or is the world on fire? Rioting, political unrest, pop stars being beaten in the streets of New York. What’s a girl to do, in the face of modern society ripping itself apart at the seams? Arm herself, of course.

I’m not talking about getting a gun or a knife. No, those are dangerous and it takes time to fish one out from the bottom of your bag. I’m talking about getting a handbag that can also be used in self-defense maneuvers of all kinds, so that if the apocalypse should rain down while you’re at the movies, you’ll be prepared to survive in the dystopian hellscape that you encounter when you leave. You may not be able to see it in this picture, but we’re all familiar with the big honkin’ chain that graces every Marc Jacobs Stam. I’ve got one myself, and every time I’ve flown with it, I’ve found myself a little nervous that airport security might wonder why I had such a long, heavy chain. You could stave off an attacker in any number of ways with this thing, including a swift blow to the noggin. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $1350.

If there’s one thing that Alexander Wang’s bags are known for, it’s the sheet of solid, heavy studs that graces the bottoms of many of them. Of all the options in the line, the Alexander Wang Diego Bucket Bag is the best for self defense because of its long strap. Swing it around your head like Wonder Woman with her golden laso for maximum use of the bottom-mounted metal. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $975.

Because the studs on the Valentino Rockstud Satchel are of a different placement and lighter weight than the Wang bag, I’d suggest using this one with the short handles to give a harasser a quick smack directly to the face. And then run away. Quickly. Buy through Saks for $2875.

Ok, so The Row Alligator Backpack doesn’t have any particular qualities that might help you in a fight, but its price tag does indicate that anyone who can afford it can also probably afford a driver and private security. If you’re going to carry around a handbag worth more than most people’s cars, you might want to think about acquiring one or both of those things. The Row insists that the bag is “price on request,” but it’s either $39,000 or $34,000, depending on who you ask.

Oh, fashion. This industry is so mercurial. One day you can fully consumed by one piece or trend or idea, and then mere hours later, something else pops up and all your energy makes a shift so sharp and sudden that you’re surprised it doesn’t hurt its metaphorical knees. (Yes, my energy has knees. It’s a fully formed, if imaginary, person.) That’s exactly what happened to me at the sight of these Sang A python bags – two days ago, I was obsessed with Rag & Bone. Now, it’s all Sang A. If you’re going to do the whole Fall 2011 python thing, these bags are the way to do it.

The golden finish on the Sang A Pop Tote really has to be seen to be believed. No matter how many times I go into Kirna Zabete, I always, always pick it up to examine it more closely. It’s deep and multi-faceted and so incredibly expensive-looking that words don’t really do it any justice. Most metallic gold bags are terrible and tacky, but this one definitively proves that it’s possible to do shiny gold in an incredibly chic way. Buy through Kirna Zabete for $3400.

Even though the Sang A Geo Shoulder Bag looks exceptionally petite, the bag of this matte leather confection opens up in a way that you wouldn’t expect to give you increased storage space and easy access to your stuff. Buy through Kirna Zabete for $1250.

Multicolored python is perhaps the biggest of the zillions of variations on the python trend for fall, and the timeless shades of green and blue in the Sang A Plush Clutch mean that even after the trend fades, this clutch will be chic. Colorblocking. Every fashion magazine and fashion lover has been both talking about and sporting this trend for the last few months. Funny thing is, we have all done it with many of our outfits before, yet right now the focus is on extreme lines and colors paired together in an eye-catching way. Many designers in the handbag world have taken a stab and many have failed (remember the Chloe mess we shared earlier this week?). If you are looking for a handbag designer to turn to for the perfectly colorblocked bag, Meredith Wendell is your girl.

I’ve had this bag saved in my tabs list for over a month now meaning to share it with you. I adore the school boy coloring and design of the Meredith Wendell Bucket Leather and Canvas Shoulder Bag.

In fact, when I first saw this bag I felt a pang of nostalgia. While growing up, I had a watch that featured the exact same color family. That watch was my pride and joy, I wore it everywhere and was certain it was THE.COOLEST.WATCH. anyone in my school possessed.

Part of my love comes from that and part comes from the sheer awesomeness of this bag. How often have you seen colors this bright and vivid paired together in a handbag? And if you have seen them, I bet that more likely than not, they looked like a hot mess. But not on Meredith Wendell’s creation. On her bag, the colors are beautiful, playful and utterly chic. Loewe vs. Furla

I didn’t take much of a shine to the Loewe Amazona Bag until I saw one in person, but since I did, my borderline-obsessive interest in the brand has yet to falter. Loewe’s leather really is something that needs to be experienced to be understood; I’ve yet to see a photo that accurately depicts the simple beauty of one of the brand’s bags.

The problem, of course, is that not only is Loewe prohibitively expensive for the average consumer, but trying to find one of its bags in-store is the stuff of slight mental breakdowns. I’ve only seen them two places: Bergdorf Goodman, which has only one location (New York), and Jeffrey, which has only two (New York and Atlanta). The brand’s website has e-commerce, but doesn’t ship to the US. So what’s a girl with a limited budget and limited access to Loewe do? Find a Look for Less – how about the Furla Camargue Bauletto Satchel?

The Furla bag lacks the Amazona’s pop of red, of course, but the Amazona comes in many more color combinations, most of which have handles that match the rest of the design’s trim. It also must be said that the F-cutout on the front of the Furla drives me absolutely insane, and I can’t imagine why the company thought doing that would be a good idea. But other than than those things, the stylistic notes of the bag are similar – simple, neutral top-zip satchels with neat corners and contrasting trim.

Let’s be real here: The Kardashian family will put its name on anything you want them to, so long as you’re willing to wave a big enough check at them. As reality stars, that’s not necessarily a bad way to go about business – they seem fully aware that their shelf lives are short, and they’re socking away as much money as they can in the meantime. I know a lot of people seem to hold that against them, which I’ve never particularly understood. If someone was holding a check with lots of zeros and my name on it, I’d “spokesmodel” for any toothpaste, hair product or used car dealership that they might be shilling.

With that in mind, I doubt that Kim, Kourtney and Khloe had anything more than a passing involvement in their Kardashian Kollection (you can’t even make that up) for Sears, which was announced just a few days ago. But shame on whoever saw fit to add a nearly detail-for-detail knockff of the Botkier Clyde Bag to the line of short, tight dresses and jumpsuits.

When Botkier founder Monica Botkier emailed me these pictures a couple of days ago, I wash shocked. We’re all more than used to seeing cheap plastic imitations of designer bags at low-end retailers, but usually high-profile capsule lines are free of such obvious “inspiration.” How can a store or brand keep up the illusion (and it is entirely an illusion) that a piece was “designed” by a celebrity if it was so clearly designed by an independent accessories brand years ago?

Surely, Sears is banking on the fact that its customers either won’t have any idea where the design came from or won’t care, both of which are probably true. Still, though, it’s unfortunate when a big national chain stores that has the resources to design its own products instead decides to pick on a smaller brand that takes pride in its own creative work, particularly when the results of the design-pilfering are so widely publicized.

When I sent a link to the bag pictured above to Amanda, she asked me, “Do rich people come home blitzed on Dom Pérignon from a night out at Le Cirque and impulse-buy ugly, overpriced gold and diamond handbags like the rest of us buy sunglasses on eBay?” I wondered the same thing when I laid eyes on this Roberto Coin Gold and Diamond bag. I’ll get to the design of it in a bit, but for starters, who literally goes online and spends just under $100,000 on one item. Do people do that? I understand it is all relative, but at that rate you could practically start buying houses with a few clicks of a mouse and stroke or two of the keyboard. This clutch strikes me as a strictly in-person splurge.

Money aside, let’s talk about the bag itself. Roberto Coin is well known for its high-end jewelery, but this bag is utterly boring and, when you consider the price, actually a bit atrocious. What you get for $100k is a gold and diamond bracelet attached to a gaudy gold leather clutch. Is that the best we can do?

I have no doubt the bracelet attachment is lovely. But no matter how much I love a good handbag, I doubt I’d ever opt for 18kt gold. To make matters worse, Roberto Coin made sure to splash its gaudy, diamond-encrusted initials front and center so that all your friends can judge you for how much money you wasted. Look to Prada for the perfect summer-to-fall transition

Can you believe that we’re already about halfway through August? I can’t, but I walked past a store yesterday and saw a fall jacket that I liked so much that I bought it in two colors, realizing only afterward that I’d be able to wear them far sooner than I had originally thought.

This would probably be the place to say something profound about the inescapable march of time, but I’d much rather talk about the Prada Glace Calf Degradé Top Handle, a design for which my feelings are profound in an entirely different way. Carry this bag now, carry it in six months, it’ll look good 365 days per year.

Over the past year or two, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for what Prada does with its accessories. The brand makes the best nondescript everyday bags in the industry, bar none, which isn’t the kind of compliment I’m wont to throw around without merit. Prada’s accessories always provide a signature minimal counterpoint to Miuccia’s often dazzling runway clothes; think of them as an anchor.

In that sense, this bag is par for the Prada course. But with the lovely grey color variation, functional shape and gorgeous leather, I’m not sure how this bag could be par for anything. It’s the kind of purchase you won’t regret because you’ll be too busy not only using the bag, but also accepting compliments from envious friends and strangers alike. Buy through Saks for $2050.

Versace pulls from its brand heritage for an ornately printed clutch

I’m as hard on Versace as anyone, but I like to think of it as a tough love situation. I talk smack because I want the brand to improve its handbags, not because I take any particular delight in its struggles. Although I have to admit, some of the company’s past bags have been almost delightfully bad, so there may have been a modicum of enjoyment on my part.

Versace may have turned the corner, though. The past couple seasons of ready-to-wear have been intriguing, and during the same period of time, I’ve noticed a conspicuous and considerable lack of Versace purses that make me want to throw a small fit. Not to mention that I actually like the Versace Baroque Printed Bag in all of its pattern-on-pattern glory.

This bag works for a few reasons. First, mixed patterns are having a moment in fashion right now, so the maximal look of brocade on leopard seems relevant in the context of current trends. Second, these two patterns in particular have a very “Versace” look to them, which results in a successful balance of brand identity and modern fashion ideas. Third, the bag isn’t very big. When an item is ornate and mixes several bold elements, a smaller scale tends to be kinder to the finished look. As is usual with Versace, I think the price is a tad steep for a simply structured felt bag with only leather trim, but for the first time in a long time, that’s the only trepidation I have. Donna Karan goes ladylike for fall with her Liaison Bag

Over the past few days, New York’s hot summer nights felt a bit of a cool down and there was a slight tinge of fall in the air. As a lover of autumn, my excitement level for the coming season multiplied exponentially. I’ve been planning additions to my fall wardrobe for a while, and one of the staples we should all have in our accessories closet is a ladylike frame bag.

Donna Karan is aware of seasonal staples and appears to have designed the Liaison bag with feminine, chic, and efficient ladies in mind. Donna Karan bags follow closely to the brands overall feel, composing of luxe materials in a sculpted and subdued fashion.

While I’m not typically drawn to brown bags, there is something quintessentially perfect about a deep brown leather bag as the weather cools down. Cream, camel, and brown tones look both classic and fashionable. I imagine carrying the brown calf version and pairing it with the perfect wide leg pant and button up blouse. Simplicity in color and style leaves you with a stand-out outfit.

The Liaison bag draws attention because of its glossy resin bar at the closure along with the top handle. The design comes in both a small and large size, both of which are available in a variety of materials and colors. The resistance to man bags that I most often hear from my straight male friends is that they’re too feminine and too expensive. I think that the “feminine” thing is totally BS – no one’s suggesting that a dude carry a purse, and stereotypically masculine options abound for anyone who’s concerned. Men have carried bags for ages, this isn’t some kind of new metrosexual trend we have here.

The price-consciousness, however, makes a little more sense. Most men aren’t used to the price levels of luxury goods, which is why the Marc by Marc Jacobs Leather Messenger Bag is the focus of this week’s Man Bag Monday. With a non-fussy design and a price that rings up under $500, it’s the perfect gift choice for the boyfriend or husband who’s new to the accessories world.

$500 seems to be something of a psychological tipping point. Even men who are only passingly interested in what they wear can likely understand why a sizable, well-made leather bag that will weather daily use costs a few hundred dollars. This Marc by Marc Jacobs piece is neutral and modern without being obviously “designed” or too fashion-forward for men who might be experiencing some man bag trepidation; the brand marking is small and tonal, as is the hardware.

Not only that, but this design is fairly ageless. It has a note of youth to it, but it’s not so pronounced that a man well in to middle age couldn’t carry it without looking like a striver. Some days, talking about trends and design and the fashion industry just seems a little strenuous, particularly first thing in the morning. Today was starting to feel like one of those days, which calls for some totally gratuitous eye candy. Luckily, online trunk sale pioneer Moda Operandi is currently offering a generous selection of gorgeous vintage Hermes bags, and even though the sale is only open to Moda members, we have all the pictures.

The Hermes pieces range in price from $4,950 for a slightly worn leather Kelly bag to $79,900 for a rare, pristine Himalayan crocodile Birkin, which has evidently already been snapped up by an enthusiastic collector. The selection of croc, alligator and ostrich is truly impressive and ranges from the expected neutrals to brights like lovely vert anis green, and there are also a few nontraditional bags with a mixture of leather and printed canvas. Diane von Furstenberg bags continue to impress

Diane von Furstenberg transitioned so flawlessly into the world of handbags that every designer trying to follow suit should take note. Not only did DvF bags quickly gather attention from department stores and shoppers alike, but they’re also easy to spot on the streets of New York. The latter part is the most important; a designer not only wants his or her designs to be recognized, but also to be worn.

I have professed my love for my two DvF Stephanie Hobos countless times (here here here) and now my DvF love is being geared toward the Elaine line of bags. Amanda already covered the Shoulder Bag, and today I want to share the DvF Elaine Festival Crossbody with you.

The Elaine line will undoubtedly offer countless sizes and options for every fashionista out there, but I am set on this iteration in particular. I love the classic appearance of the design paired with the long shoulder strap and tassel detail. Also, great news for those that don’t always love the extra tassel flair: This one is removable. Are any of you YouTubers? There is this entirely separate YouTube world roaming on the internet. We have a channel that is updated very sporadically but we are planning to create more videos in the upcoming year.

Anyhow, one of my good friends, Elle Fowler, is a YouTube beauty guru under the name AllthatGlitters21. In the world of YouTube, ‘Tag’ videos are huge. While I was chatting with Elle, she told me she was finishing filming a Holiday Tag Video (here is hers). The premise is you answer a bunch of questions and tag other YouTubers, hence this being called a tag video (or post for our purposes). For a bit of something different for PurseBlog, I decided to answer this tag and share it with you all. I added a few questions and tweaked the questions to be for Christmas (which is what I celebrate), but you can change the questions to be for the holiday you celebrate. 1. What is your favorite holiday movie?

Love Actually – this is the quintessentially perfect holiday movie! Vlad and I have started a tradition to watch this movie Christmas morning. It gives me that warm fuzzy feeling inside.

2. Do you like to stay in your PJ’s or dress up for Christmas?

I start the morning in PJ’s when I open gifts and then *try* to change into ‘real’ clothes later in the day. We do dress up for a Christmas Eve party we go to every year though.

3. If you could only buy one person a present this year, who would it be?

Anyone who may not be able to get or give a gift.

4. Have you ever built a gingerbread house?

Of course, I love making them and eating all of the ingredients!

5. What do you like to do on your holiday break?

Shop, relax, and look at the lights and decorations people put up. Holiday break has always been about spending time with family and relaxing.

6. Favorite holiday smell?

The smell of pine trees. I am obsessed with the Yankee Candle Mistletoe scent!

7. Favorite holiday meal or treat?

COOKIES. And hot chocolate. Lots and lots of sweets.

8. What is your favorite gift you purchased for someone ELSE this year?

I can’t tell, because they all read this site – but I can say they are sentimental gifts that I think the people receiving them will truly love.

9. What handbag is on your holiday wish list?

MANY! But mostly I am lusting after a Proenza Schouler PS1, Celine Classic Box Bag, and a Balenciaga City!

10. What handbag do you plan to carry on New Year’s Eve?

I haven’t decided yet – but it has to be a fun and funky clutch! Anything metallic or sequined would be ideal. New Year’s Eve is all about fun and I plan to carry an eye-catching clutch when we ring in 2011.

I know that we’re all supposed to put on a happy face, sing holiday songs and pretend like we just love dealing with our various and assorted sociopathic family members this time of year, but let’s face it – Christmas is often as stressful as it is exciting. I’m blessed with a small extended family, almost all of whom I get along with swimmingly, but not everyone is so lucky. If you’re one of the people who will have to drink for your entire trip home so that you don’t stab your sister-in-law with a fork, then perhaps a little present to yourself is in order. Might I suggest something sparkly, fun and entirely anti-utilitarian like the Judith Leiber Crystal and Bead Embellished Clutch?

Sparkles always preoccupy me at this time of year because of the looming New Year’s Eve parties, but I think that this clutch is cool enough to grab my attention no matter the season. Leiber’s work is usually relegated to the use of tiny crystals, so seeing larger-scale beadwork on one of the brand’s clutches feels a bit refreshing. The geometric pattern that these beads create is perfect, and the amber-gold color manages to stay just this side of tacky. Gift Guides 2010: The stuff dreams are made of

Now that most of us have our Christmas shopping done and will be setting out to deliver gifts to our relatives over the next few days, let’s talk about what we really want, when economic concerns and dollar amounts aren’t taken into account. We all have a few if-I-won-the-lottery items in the backs of our heads, and maybe for a lucky few among us, the contents of our Fantasy Gift Guide 2010 aren’t even all that fantastical. A Birkin might be the obvious choice for a fantasy handbag, but go with me on this one. So for those times when you’ve given your driver the day off (you’re such a saint), forget the Bentley. I’m not a wine expert, but I do know that the Krug 1995 Clos Ambonnay Brut Champagne sounds like it’s just about the most luxurious champagne experience you can have. Forget the Cristal – only 3000 bottles of this stuff exist on Earth, and the 1995 vintage marks the first time that the Krug family ever produced a single-vineyard wine. If you’re going the spend-y booze route for a gift, there’s no better way to celebrate the holidays. Buy through K&L Wines for $3500.

Many iterations of the Cartier Panthere Bracelet exist and their prices vary depending on the amount of bling present, but the one pictured above is among the shiniest of pieces from the jewelry house’s iconic big cat collection. The platinum band is set with gobs of diamonds and blue sapphires, plus emerald eyes and a black onyx nose. Cartier has yet to get back to me with a price, but based on the available information, I’d guess that this bracelet is in the mid to high five figures. If you’d prefer that your bling is functional as well as fashionable, allow me to recommend the diamond and rose gold version of the Rolex Lady-Datejust Pearlmaster. It comes in a couple different versions, but the chocolate face is by far the most interesting choice. This piece isn’t as obnoxiously bling-covered as some Rolexes that I’ve seen, and if you dig rose gold, I can’t think of a more perfect timepiece. I’d like to begin my wish list by saying that I am almost entirely opposed to the concept of the wish list. I’d much rather have a thoughtful surprise than something picked off a list based on price and/or availability, but with the way holidays go, that’s not always possible. Plus, I’m a difficult person to buy for in general; if something’s reasonably priced and I like it enough, I’ll probably buy it for myself long before any holiday comes around. Add to that the additional complication of my birthday falling on Christmas Eve, and I’m sure it’s just easier for people to pretend that they don’t know me at all during this time of year. But if my friends and loved ones had unlimited budgets and felt like being generous with me, these are the things I’d tell them to buy.

I can’t resist Mulberry’s blue Bayswater

At this point, I honestly thought that I had seen everything the Mulberry Bayswater had to show me. Yes, it’s a great everyday bag. I’ll never deny that. But I’ve seen it in so many leather, colors patterns and other materials that I didn’t expect to be surprised by it any more. I was wrong.

Never doubt the ability for a resourceful brand to have one more trick up its sleeve when you least expect it, and this time, that trick is luscious soft calf leather in the shade of blue that I imagine the sky would be on the most perfect evening in the history of weather. Somehow, Mulberry managed to wrangle that color and put it on a handbag, and for that, I salute them.

It’s just so…pretty. And the texture of this leather is so soft and chewy, which sort of feels like a revelation to me. Normally I shy away from bags like this because the leather tends to be stiffer and more structured (not to mention shiny, ick), but with this treatment, it looks as soft and touchable as anything in my closet. We are self-proclaimed Alexander McQueen fans here at PurseBlog. And this bag is no different.

The Alexander McQueen Leather Biker Satchel infuses a design that I wasn’t completely in love with to make a bag that is speaking to me. With all of the pockets and zippers from the Alexander McQueen Leather Biker Tote and the laid-back satchel style, I am loving this bag from Alexander McQueen. Confession: Amanda wrote about a grey version of this bag before and thought it was a misstep from McQueen. I too felt like that bag was lacking something. Actually, in grey it is completely blah for me.

Not only is this bag killer in both black and electric blue, but it gives the bag an entire new appeal and look. In fact, I can’t believe the grey version is the exact same bag as this one. I would have bet it was not. In black/blue I am sold. I need more satchels in my life and this is the perfect example. The bag has a long shoulder strap, with a 14″ drop, for you to sling the bag over your arm. There are top handles as well, but like I said before, I am all about the long shoulder strap. The body shows of multiple pockets and silvertone snaps, bringing that edgy look McQueen is known for. On the outside there is two zipper pockets and one snap pocket while the inside boasts a zipper pocket and open pocket.

The grey just looks way to safe and lame, but the black leather brings back the edge and the blue is that pop of rocker color that McQueen wearers can rock. Buy via Saks for $1450.

You know what? This clutch may work very well for those of you that have a slight affinity for skulls but do not want too much. Alexander McQueen was known for infusing skull accents into his designs. Sometimes in masses, sometimes as a clasp closures, and now embossed.

The Alexander McQueen Demanta Leather Skull Clutch features skull-embossed black leather.

The body of the clutch is large, 15″W X 7½”H X 2″D. The top folds and snaps at the sides to bring the design together a bit more. I can imagine this working for someone looking to add a bit of edge to their ensemble. This clutch may be black, but it certainly does not lack spunk.

As much as I love Alexander McQueen and I want to love this clutch, it isn’t for me. With the size being so large, it seems like it might be hard to carry. I’m so relieved that Alexander McQueen (the brand) will continue to function after the death of Alexander McQueen (the man). He was a visionary, and his legacy deserves to be continued in the wake of his passing. By all indications, the McQueen clothing and accessories that we will see in the near future owe a considerable debt to the founder’s aesthetic, just as it should be.

Skull clutches have been a McQueen accessory signature for some time, and the brand looks to continue that tradition with the Alexander McQueen Union Jack Stud Clutch. My Balenciaga fangirldom is by now common knowledge around these parts, and despite Megs’ ongoing inability to find her perfect Balenciaga bag, I just keep discovering things from the brand that I need in my closet with a fierce urgency. Funny how that works, eh?

The latest object of my lust is the Balenciaga Giant City with rose gold hardware, and although I’m late to the rose gold party, I hope that I still get bonus points for earnestness. I brushed off the rose gold color choice as too “niche” when I heard about it, but after encountering this very bag in person, I can ignore it no longer.

At first I assumed that rose gold hardware would clash with most of my jewelry and my general sense of style, since I mostly associate the metal with expensive, gaudy jewelry that is very much not my style. In typical Balenciaga fashion, though, the designers behind the hardware gave it a weathered, gritty appearance that transforms it into something that fits right into my wardrobe.

Only the front zipper has a bit of shine to it, and the contrast is an interesting before-and-after demonstration of what the studs and buckles used to look like. It might prove more difficult to match rose gold hardware with Balenciaga’s famous bright leathers, but the rose and black combination works just fine for me. Buy through Matches for $1551.

The moment after I post about this handbag I am going to feel a sense of regret take over my body. In fact, I feel it now. After I post this sale I am certain a few of you will buy it and then it will be sold out, all before I could plead my case of needing this clutch myself. The Alexander McQueen Faithful Glove Clutch is an attention grabber, a total out of the box idea. While I understand that it seems like a fairly simple idea to place a glove on a clutch and call it a day, it is the way in which McQueen can pull this off that amazes me.

The version that has my undivided attention right now is in bright glossy red leather AND it is massively on sale. As much as I’m an unrepentant Alexander McQueen fangirl in almost every way imaginable, I’m still not really feeling the Alexander McQueen Biker Faithful Satchel. The more I look at it, the more I think that’s probably because it doesn’t really look anything like what we’ve come to expect from the brilliant McQueen.

In fact, it sort of looks like a mid-tier brand trying to ape the Balenciaga aesthetic, if anything. Thin-looking glazed leather, the double-riveted leather strip in the middle, front zipper pockets – am I completely off base here?

I don’t think I am. I like the little buckles and the color of the leather, but this bag is missing the signature McQueen spark and irreverence that makes the brand’s designs so special. Without that, it’s just a bag.

Visually, it also seems a bit crowded, although it doesn’t seem like it was done intentionally. There’s just too much stuff, too many different elements fighting for attention for the design to be successful. Every designer makes a misstep occasionally, and I’ll go ahead and count this as one of McQueen’s. Buy through Bergdorf Goodman for $1450.

This morning, I said to myself, “Self, you haven’t had an opportunity to slobber all over Alexander McQueen in a while. Make that happen.” It didn’t take much looking to find something to talk about. Behold: the Alexander McQueen Croc-Print Skull Clutch.

I’ve never quite understood why these clutches aren’t more popular with starlets on the red carpet. They’re tiny, glam, come in so many finishes, and have a ton of personality. What gives?

And now I have more visions of myself driving along the coast in our old-timer on our way to a weekend getaway. The old-timer is not had and I haven’t had a weekend getaway in quite some time. Who doesn’t daydream about it though? So back to my dream world. Anyhow, in that dream world I would have the ultimate travel bag. I change my mind on what exactly it would be. I love all three bags for different reasons. The only one I have actually tried on and carried around is the Ferragamo bag and it was beyond every level of luscious and divine.

They say when away the mice will play. That was quite true during my last trip; as I traveled around Spain, Vlad broke into my closet and attempted to photograph my entire bag collection. There is this huge worldwide Balenciaga craze, and somehow I have never been part of it. It is not that I do not like Balenciaga bags, actually I like them quite much. I would go on to say I adore them even, as they are just my style. Is there a particular reason why I do not own one yet? Over the weekend Vlad and I made the journey up the state of Florida to Tallahassee, home of Florida State University, where my brother goes to school. It was family weekend, and we went up to visit him and go to a Florida State game. If you know me, Vlad, or my family, you will know that we are rather obsessed with college football. This was my first FSU game and we had a great time, who wouldn’t? Even better is FSU won. I did not own a FSU tee-shirt and had to head to the school store to FSU myself, Vlad, and my mom out. We got shirts and finally fit in with the rest of the school population. What worked out perfectly is that I took my Rebecca Minkoff Wine Nikki and my mom had her Linea Pelle Dylan Croco Shoulder bag in yellow. Perfect bags that showed off garnet and gold and we didn’t even plan it.

When I went to Ohio State I had a hard time finding the perfect red bag to wear to the games. Red bags are not always my cup of tea as far as the color goes, too bright, too dark, not enough oomph. So why not skip over the red and carry a grey bag to an Ohio State game (colors are indeed Scarlett and grey). I figured out the perfect college football game day bag, the Balenciaga Giant City in charcoal grey. I think that one of my favorite things about Bluefly is that their selection is so vast and random. They carry brands that are rarely found elsewhere on the Internet and bags that may not have made it onto the radar of the casual aficionado, in addition to lots of reliable favorites. A perfect example of the breadth of their available bags is the Balenciaga Lune Tote. As one of their rarely-noticed non-motorcycle bags, the Lune may have been overlooked by many, but I think that anyone who appreciates a statement bag should give it some serious consideration. It’s a bicolor, multi-textured beauty made of soft denim-colored goat leather and smooth, slick black calfskin with enough buckles, straps, and trim to keep anyone entertained. It’s big enough to handle all of its accoutrement, though, and the Balenciaga bag designers stopped just before it got overdone. The first version of the Balenciaga Giant Lattice City that I saw was the smaller multicolor version, and let’s just say that my feelings were, at best, mixed. The combination of colors seemed kind of muddled, and the abundance of blue trim sorta took away from the effect of the latticed leather. But today, I stumbled across the black and white version, and my opinion changed immediately. Since the bag is bicolor instead of multicolor, the careful precision with which the leather is woven becomes much more apparent. At first it looks scattered, but if examined closely, there’s an almost-symmetry to the pattern that indicates just how much care was taken when deciding where the bag would change colors. If it had been completely symmetrical, it wouldn’t nearly as interesting to look at, but as it is, I find it almost fascinating. I love the Balenciaga aesthetic in general, and I REALLY love their bags with giant silver hardware, so all of that combined with the intricacy of the black-and-white woven detail really makes me wish I had an extra $2700 laying around. If I did, I’d be all over this.

Whether or not you believe that clothing and accessories can qualify as art, you have to look at the Balenciaga Metallic Crocodile Wristlet and see, first and foremost, an art object. It’s uses (and, most likely, it’s production) are decidedly limited, but if I was to get my hands on it, I think I’d probably just hold it and stare at it anyway. The crocodile skin is treated in such a way that it almost reminds me of mother of pearl – it’s shiny, but in a way that does a beautiful job picking up the colors and the light around them, making the bag look eternally different. It’s finished with polished blue-green accents, which might be either polished stone or lucite, it’s impossible to tell, and a bold box-chain wrist strap. It doesn’t look like it would hold much, and I’m sure it costs an arm and a leg, but it’s just so stinkin’ beautiful that I don’t really care. Where do I sign up?

And some people may think that’s nuts, but I think it’s AWESOME. Leather texture and hardware are discussed heavily, even though the differences may not be huge to the casual observer. As a result, when one thing changes about how Balenciaga builds their bags, tongues are set wagging about it for months, if not years.

This clutch is a favorite among the Purse Blog team. Amanda covered this Balenciaga clutch a few months ago, and as far as I know she still did not buy it. Then there is me, who has a slight obsession with clutches and loves the giant hardware on Balenciaga bags. So an oversized clutch with giant hardware is pure love for me. Why have I still not purchased one of these clutches? The answer is truly beyond me. I keep wanting to wait and get it at the Balenciaga store in NYC. Our next trip we are tacking on at least one day for shopping, this I promise not only you but myself.

For me, the Balenciaga Arena Giant Envelope is an ideal clutch. It is a fold-over clutch with lambskin and giant silver-toned hardware. A magnetic closure is easy to use and there is a zipper pocket. I need this clutch. It is a perfect addition to my collection. I always have the same problem with Balenciaga, what color is best? The many color options actually send my head spinning rather than give me clarity on what I want. I am thinking pink. Once I finally get this clutch (and more BBags that I keep talking about), you all will breathe a sigh of relief not having to hear me try to decide on my ‘firsts’ for Balenciaga.

Balenciaga Day Bag in Pommier bags

One of my favorite parts of every new handbag season is waiting for the new Balenciaga colors to start hitting stores and websites. They’re my favorite brand and consistently product some of the most vibrant leather colors of any high-end designer. Since their bag shapes are simple and iconic, it lets the ever-changing leather shades take center stage, where some become highly sought-after and collectible.

My favorite from Fall 2009 is Pommier, a beautiful bright green that this photo doesn’t do justice. From what I’ve seen, it’s more of a Kelly shade in real life, and I couldn’t think of anything more beautiful to wear with the blacks and greys of fall. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a green like this from Balenciaga, which is refreshing – they’ve taken to repeating some of their most recent hits in the past few seasons. I’d prefer it with giant silver hardware (since I prefer everything with giant silver hardware), but I’d settle for the regular hardware pictured here if I had to. Maybe if I can save my pennies, I’ll have one of these lovely bags to show you ladies in the future.

Dolce and Gabbana Sequined Sandals

These Dolce & Gabbana sandals ($536 at Luisaviaroma) are my pick for for walking shoe disaster of the week. There are a lot of reasons to pick on this shoe - the over-the-top sequins, the large buckle at the ankle (I have fat ankles), etc. but it’s the arch , or lack thereof, of an arch support which bugs me the most about this sandal. Towering at 4.5 inches, this shoe is already going to tough to walk in, but without the support, it will be tortuous. I can’t even rationalize the lack of arch support because of aesthetics either. Surely Dolce & Gabbana could have added a thin gold sole without impairing the design aspects of the shoe.

What are you thoughts - am I overly rough on this shoe?

Christian Dior Fall 2009 Couture Paris

No one does couture like Christian Dior. He set his show in the Dior Headquarters on Avenue Montaigne. This line was presented very much like the clothes were traditionally presented to press and clients in the 40’s and 50’s. The clothes were reminiscent of 40s and 50s styles only with bright, sophistocated color.

The difference was that the models were “half” dressed.

I would imagine real world clients will combine tops and skirts from these different outfits for real world wear. I can’t wait to see how Charleze Theron wears this look on the Red Carpet.

The embelishments, make me think of old girdle connectors. I can’t tell you how many times I watched my mother squeeze into her girdle and hook her stockings with those little dealies.

Chanel’s Cutie Boots and Sandals

Chanel isn’t just for matrons or uptight Heidi Montag types. They’ve got some adorable things for younger girls, too. I spied some remainders of the popular Chanel Camellia Jellies at Saks. Unfortunately, they seem to be unavailable on Saks’ or Neiman Marcus’ websites. However, I can affirm that there were pairs in store at Saks. Whether they’ll have them in your size, I’m not sure. Call 212-753-4000 for more information or to see if they’ll check for your size. They supposedly run a tad small, so you’d be wise to check for the size above as well. They were in the low $200 range, as I recall.

The colors they had were clear, green, yellow and pink.

Here’s a better promo shot of them. Aren’t they adorable? I wore jellies a lot as a child, so these bring back memories for me, but are much more fashionable than my netted pairs!

It’s been a VERY rainy summer in New York. Annoyingly rainy, as I’ve mentioned before, bringing out the boots in droves. It’s threatening to rain this morning, in fact. I wish I had a pair of these, which I instantly fell in love with when I saw them at Saks. How have I not seen them before, I wondered. My love of Balenciaga continues to grow and I often find myself wondering why is it that I literally do not own one Balenciaga bag? I know, it is some sort of travesty that I do not own a Balenciaga bag. My collection is vast and covers many designers, but for an amount of time I could not see the craze behind the bags. When the giant hardware was added, Balenciaga got me right in the heart. As a self-proclaimed clutch lover, the Balenciaga Arena Giant Envelope is a stunning funky and edgy clutch. Designed with the signature lambskin, the wrinkled flap front with a magnetic closure offers a fun take on a fold over clutch. There is a zipper pocket and silver-toned hardware. I love this clutch and if I could figure out exactly what color to buy, I would (of course if in my small allotted bag budget for the year). Measurements are 7″ x 12″ x 1.75″.

I’m going to give this one to the Chanel runway model, despite the hairpiece. Alexa looks mismatched in a biege dress with black/white booties. While I typically love what Diane wears, the crossover messenger bag seems off with her outfit. I have come to expect more wow from her.

This first one is my favorite, even if the shape is all wrong for my particular feet. The all-over lace and that peek of red sole are superbly matched.

Studded handbags have been everywhere lately, and Diane Von Furstenberg has gotten in on the trend with the Roberta Wrap Bag.

The Diane von Furstenberg Wrap Bag is oversized with a whole lot of studs all over it. There is a pleat at the front and back of the bag and a buttoned drawstring at the top of the bag. I think the exterior of the bag looks fabulous but the pleat’s and buttoned drawstring make the handbag look like a mess when you look inside. The picture of the inside of the bag on Shop Bop literally looks like a dark tunnel, but lets hope this is just bag photography.

Some other details of the handbag include: metal feet on the bottom of the bag; gunmetal hardware; double handles; lined interior; and interior pockets. The measurements of the handbag are, 12″H x 18″L x 5.5″D, making the handbag quite large for all of your stylish essentials. Of course, if you can find them through all that commotion that is caused at the opening of the bag.

The Diane von Furstenberg Roberta Wrap Bag can be purchased at Shop Bop for $600. Being that the handbag is beautiful and was made by Diane von Furstenberg, a high price was expected. If the opening of the handbag is a lot easier than it looks, then this handbag would be a great buy.

Gucci Original Backpack

I actually took a class on review writing in college. Yep, they teach you that in journalism school. If you’re lucky, anyway - it was pretty hard to get in to. We reviewed all kinds of things, from restaurants to plays, and did lots of exercises to make us better reviewers - things like reviewing oranges and writing TV show reviews the length of a Twitter message. And the one big takeaway I got from that class was this: reviews of things you like are hard to write. Reviews of things that suck? They write themselves.

Which is why I feel like I’m cheating by writing about the Gucci Original Backpack. Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot. I mean, look at this thing, y’all. It’s been out for a while, I’ve seen it in personal multiple times…and I just don’t think it’s cute. At all. It’s oddly shaped and confusing to look at and I haven’t wanted a backpack as a purse since mini-backpacks were in style when I was approximately nine years old. I had a pleather one, and I wore it to school very excitedly. But that was 1994, and this is 2009, and I feel like we should have progressed since then. Chloe is slowly but surely making its way back into our hearts. It was my friend Connie's birthday yesterday and we chipped in to buy her the Chloe Paraty in chocolate python. We have a "birthday" group of girlfriends-- there are 4 of us and we have been celebrating each other's birthdays together for 5 years. There is always champagne involved of course (and a LOT of dessert), sometimes the lunches end at dinner time! The birthday girl gets to pick out whatever gift she wants! We decided a long time ago that we're too old for surprises (unless it's from our hubbies and involve any kind of diamonds and of course anything made by our kids!) so it works out for everyone!

I really have no words for this ball (spare tire holder?) bag from Bottega Veneta. It's 18" around so I don't know how one is supposed to carry it, balanced on your head? Look at what I ran into today. I would say this is yet another designer experiment to see if a product really sells for it’s quality or it’s brand name. Bright and Summery is Prada’s colorful Moss Tessuto Patch Shopping Tote.

It’s not your typical luxury Prada bag as this tote lacks the luscious Prada leather, shiny hardware, and the versatile, everyday theme. Instead, this bright shopper seems perfect for your spring/summer wardrobe, and that’s about it. This artistic crafted accessory carries an arrangement of moss green, pink, purple, yellow and white nylon patches, forming what looks like an irregular sun or floral design.

My question for the House of Prada is, who designed this and why? I apologize to any fans of this piece, but I don’t understand its concept. It’s too juvenile and way out of the ordinary. Plus for way less than the $796 asking price, I can find a handbag as bright and detailed as this shopper is. They’re a bit out of my current price range, but I’ve fondled many of their bags at stores in the past few years, and their leather quality and feel never cease to amaze me. roster of celebrity associates: Kanye West. The famous rapper is bigger than big

There was too much going on, the thickly braided handles, the same braided detail on the many pockets, all the features we too big like a cartoon character. But of course it was who propelled it into instant "it bag" status with the matching miniature version for *Sahara. But this tote is way more my taste. It still has bold details and the bright fuchsia in patent certainly adds an aggressive punch that screams to be noticed. Plus, it is a giant bag at 17" x 15". The little bit of the braiding detail is all that is needed, and the scrunched sides held together by simple buckles are way more appealing. It is open on top and is held closed by the cinching of the sides. I'm actually seriously digging this bag, it is the ONLY Valentino that has ever stirred me up. What is going on here? The first image I came across was a straight on view of this handbag and at first glance, it looked kind of like a pillow. I couldn’t figure out where to open the clutch, how it would store my essentials or how it would feel. When you think of leather or satin you can pretty much imagine what the texture of the bag would feel like. But, what does woven sterling silver feel like?

The Celestina Woven Silver Filigree Clutch uses a very eclectic combination of material. Who would have ever thought that sterling silver, kamagong (wood from a fruit tree which boasts very dense wood), filigree (wire work) and embossed wood would be used in one bag. Personally, I think the bag is a little over-the-top, but then again, I am sure there are plenty of you out there who would absolutely rock this clutch!

I knew they were costly, but I had no clue how very costly. Oh…the innocence of youth! I decided that it would be useful for our legion of faithful readers to have a handy reference of the most pricey designer handbags on the planet. So here goes…rnrnIt has been written about countless times in the press and in the blogosphere, but I simply cannot resist this tiny gem! If I had to name an all-time favorite design home, Fendi would be the one. I don’t know how they manage to do it, but they’re consistently able to strike an astonishing balance between innovation and classic design in all of their creations. Fendi designs some of the most exciting handbags in the fashion industry, and the “B.Bag” is one of the most sought-after handbags in the world. One might think that the $30,000 price tag might be a deterrent, but not for those with the means to support their addiction!rnrnAnother bag that has given me far too many sleepless nights is the Hermes “Birkin” bag! These bags were named after Jane Birkin, the oh-so-fabulous British actress and fashion icon. These bags are often duplicated, but never truly replicated. With a price tag of over $20,000, it is easy to understand why they’re a favorite of vendors of cheap, imitation handbags. As you are likely aware, these bags are available by special order only. Furthermore, the final costs will very much be dependent on the materials and hardware used in their construction. Wow! Do I need a Sugar Daddy, or what?rnrnIf there was one other bag that creeps into my dreams with any regularity, it would be the “Muse” from Yves Saint Laurent. It is very much like a traditional bowling bag in shape and design. The first time I saw her was at Saks on Fifth Ave in NYC, and from that moment I knew one day she would be mine. If I had my way, I would choose the oh-so-supple white crocodile version. I can’t think of anything I would rather spend $20,000 on…aside from the “Birkin” bag mentioned above. Wouldn’t I make the perfect girlfriend? Wanna go shopping sometime?

Corinna Jet Setter Tote bags

A few months ago I hit the Foley + Corinna Sample Sale on the second to last day. I was interested in a Mid City Tote even though I knew it would be impractical for an every day bag. Much to my suprise my heart was won over by a green Jet Setter Tote! And as an added bonus, prices has been reduced since the sale was about to end.

The Jet Setter has been my every day tote now for several months and I love it. Although I haven’t had a chance to take it on an actual jet, It has been a fantastic commuting bag. Plenty of pockets for all my little things, but yet wide enough to fit a tupperware container of lunch.

I still haven’t give up on the Mid City tote though and plan to hit the next F+C sample sale…but this time on the very last day.

I didn't think anything of this bag at first when I saw it in a picture but when I carried it around at Barneys, I was suddenly in love. There are many details that is overlooked in the picture, like the side pocket and the fact that it is a drawstring looking bag but actually does not require you to adjust the drawsting after you achieve the slouchy-ness you want. There is a magnetic closure that keeps everything in place. The leather shoulder piece keeps the chain strap on the shoulder and the chains are surprisingly light. Also, the length is just long enough to fit over the arm so there isn't a lot of excess chains hanging all over. I hate putting down my chain bags and having this giant pool of chains piled up. Also comes in a beautiful

gray but I wanted to show the beige to reveal all the details.

So what am I wanting for this summer? I was thinking maybe a large tote. Something that could be used for both shopping and school (I’ll be doing research this summer). But most importantly, it has to be in an eye-popping, “so good I just want to eat it” shade! And lucky for me, I think I have found just that.

In general, I really don’t like so-called “neutral bags.” The leather has to be truly special, the design truly innovative and beautiful for me to look at one twice, and if it’s not, I bore really easily. My aversion is a result of the belief that there are so many bags out there made in so many beautiful colors, why would anyone choose one in a color that is supposed to, by definition, blend in and hide?

But when I do like a neutral, that neutral is almost always some version of pewter or gunmetal, and the Burberry Metallic Leather Hobo is a great example of that color. It’s not a bright silver at all - it has a lot of grey in it, but enough shine and innate glimmer to make it decidedly glam and metallic. I can see it going with almost anything, but I can’t imagine it blending in and hiding at all, as the “neutral” moniker would indicate. So if you’re going to do something neutral, please do something with at least a LITTLE BIT of a kick.

Hermes stand next to the real deal?

There has been an interesting discussion taking part on Purse Forum on a news clip. ABC popped into Hermes on Madison Avenue in NYC and spoke with the Hermes-god-placed-on-Earth

himself, Claude Gandrille. I was shocked to see Claude on ABC speaking about Hermes, as the brand is so secretive and keeps mum about their happenings. Furthermore Claude is rather quiet himself, typically found diligently working in his back right corner of the shop. But they got an interview with Claude. Somehow a slew of video cameras came into Hermes as well, when a simple movement of your camera phone on any other day will send the security upon you in less than 10 seconds.

Next ABC decided to enlist Michelle, a do it yourself artisan, to create a Hermes Kelly for $35. She did so by using the Hermes Kelly pattern found on the Hermes website (we created our own Hermes a while back). Michelle spent two days creating a Hermes Kelly that was made to resemble a classic Kelly and a Crocodile Kelly. Afterward she hit the streets to see if people could spot the real bag. They could. Better yet, she went to Hermes to see what the sale associates and Claude thought. Are you kidding me - I nearly fell off my chair at this point trying to hold in my anticipation of their reactions. The sale associates laughed and tried to tell her it was good. Claude was dying on the inside, though on the outside he held it together and told her “This is wonderful”. Claude was lying, I know it.

What gets me is after this piece, the ABC anchor goes on to say you can get that ‘blueprint’ on Hermes and try it yourself. So let’s make more wannabes and give more counterfeiters the idea. Not that the design would have stumped anyone who knew handbags. Obviously the quality was about a millionth of what a true Hermes bag is. And that cracked, dry tree-bark pattern on the ‘crocodile’ Kelly Michelle made was heinous. Either way we enjoyed the video because we got to see Claude; Vlad and I love Claude! And we did not take it too seriously, it was just for fun anyhow.

Remember when Chloe bags sold out before they hit the stores? The madness of the Paddington and Edith bags seem so silly to me now-- the Paddington was heavier than a new born baby when empty and the Edith was so stiff you could barely put your arm around it. Then came the Paulo Melim Andersson days; though he was only at the helm for a year and half it seemed an eternity of endless hideous bags. For a while it seemed we should write Chloe off for good but along came Hannah! I am an optimist and am excited about Hannah MacGibbon-- just look at her! She looks like the cool best friend who pushes the fashion envelope in a good Kate Moss kinda way. The new and improved (plus much lighter) Chloe bags sans heavy hardware is giving us a glimmer of hope for the future!

The rolled edges give it the look of structure without stiffness and it must be seen on an actual arm to appreciate its appeal. I guess I'm still a die hard Chloe girl at heart! I am really into grass green for summer- it's neutral like brown and goes with more colors than you can imagine! Wear it with a juicy orange top or pale pink shirt and anything crispy white! They call this the small version but at 39cmx25cm it is not so small in my book. Was 1,125 Euro on sale for 788 Euro-- free shipping anywhere in the world!

I was browsing the internet for handbags – as I do - and I stumbled across Matt and Nat’s Vegan Leather handbags – and I thought to myself: “Hang on? Vegan handbags? Do they mean fake leather?” And it turns out yes. This represents their credo: Fashion forward AND vegan. I guess the difference is here that non-leather is the conscious positive choice rather than the cheaper option in production!

It has been a long while since I posted anything on Anya Hindmarch, and with good reason too. Since their boutique's closure at Ngee Ann City last year, I don't think they are available anywhere in Singapore now. However since their online site does ship internationally, one can still buy whatever they want. And one tote I've my eye on now is the Anya Hindmarch Natural Canvas Tote collection, with motifs/themes like Shopping (shown above), Fruit And Veg, Meat And Poultry, Dairy, Laundry and Dry Cleaning.

Measuring 32 cm by 36 cm, each GBP55 tote is made of heavy duty woven cotton and comes with tan leather handles. After conversion with shipping to Singapore, each tote will set you back by SGD170 or so, which ain't bad for such an adorable tote. Better yet, gather a couple of friends and share the shipping cost which will save you a little more.

Now that my travel plans in September to London and Paris are firm, we still got a few kinks to work out, including accommodation and looking to see if we can squeeze Edinburgh and Brussels into our itinerary. The humble bamboo plant has always been associated with Gucci since the 1940s. A reason why the bamboo made an appearance then was also because many exotic materials were in short supply during the war years, and creativity was the order of the day. Since then it has become a firm favourite with royalty and celebrities alike. I am also a fan, so when I first spotted the Gucci Lucy Python Clutch naturally my jaw dropped. Exotic python is employed in this clutch, along with leather and suede before finally finished with gold hardware.

More importantly it also has the iconic bamboo nodes which lets you know at once this is indeed a Gucci creation, and not a Jimmy Choo for example, which has clutches that look pretty similar. Just for fun I thought I'd showcase the Marc by Marc Jacobs Croc Billfold, which seems the be the 'in' thing lately. Not so much the brand, but more the pattern itself. Yes croc is officially 'in' again. Thing is, we all know real crocodile is much too expensive and beyond the reach of most, but there's nothing exorbitant about croc-embossed leather. Especially when they are just USD45 each, and no it is not a typo. From Marc's Special Items collection, I am loving the one in Blue (shown above) the most. Isn't it just perfect for the summer?

Then there's the close second, the one in Red. Much more refined, yet equally stunning.

I’ve had my eye on this Chanel Rock & Chain tote since the runway show, and it looks like it’s finally going to start filtering into stores. I have my name down on wait lists for the calfskin version, which is undoubtedly less impressive than this alligator, but also more affordable to mere mortals. Anyway, how cool is this bag? The slouchy shape and triple chain are utterly drool-worthy, and that gorgeous tiled alligator skin is making me see stars. The hardware is understated even with three Chanel straps. I love the antique look of the juncture between the straps and the bag, whatever that piece of metal might be called. The Rock & Chain can be worn over the shoulder or hand held as shown. I think it looks perfect held low like this. The bag appears to have zip closure, so for people who objected to the Cabas for that reason, this bag should be perfect! From the runway of Paris, Karl Lagerfeld brought together a complacent winter themed backdrop with a commonplace line from Chanel. From a mastermind like Lagerfeld one would expect some guts and ingenuity, but for the Chanel Fall 2007 line, the basics were kept nearby with small amounts of color splashes and outfits that are poised yet wearable. As far as the accessories go, the Chanel handbags were nothing out of the ordinary and the shoes manifested in tall boots and back buckles. The Turquoise Reissue brought a colorful twist to the line that was rather doldrum at times. Heavy and dark drawn in eyebrows were key along with frizzy crimped hair and a bib-like addition to some outfits. While not completely let-down, there is also a feeling that something was missing from the Chanel line for the upcoming season.

Not sure if the bag can be found anywhere now, but the Chanel Croc Biarritz deserves much more fuss and press and spotlight than the LV bag of horrors. From the new season of Chanel, I present you the Chanel Madison Patent Leather Flap. It comes in an array of colors, including this gorgeous liquid gold. What’s not to love? The quilted flap over the smooth leather of the rest of the bag is an interesting touch, as are the subtle metal chain links gracing the center of the bag. The patent is right on for this season, and the color is droolworthy. But…doesn’t that central chain-bordered flap remind you of something? Do you find yourself giggling at the sight of this picture and not understanding why? That’s right. The friendly folks on the Purse Forum have aptly named this bag “the Weenus.” Why? Because there’s a fat schlong drooping right down the middle of it. I won’t even go into how the adjacent quilted portions now evoke wrinkled…anyway, I said I wouldn’t. So buyer beware! I know this bag has its charms, and I can’t quite call it fugly, but should you be sporting this patent piece on your shoulder and you hear some immature snickering…well, that’s probably coming from the mouth of a corrupted soul like me who can see your bag in all its phallic glory.
