We don’t talk a lot about Coach handbags on this blog, and maybe that’s an oversight on our part. What better way to start correcting it, then, than by talking about the line of bags named after yours truly (ok, well, they’re not necessarily named after me. But I came first. So there.)? The Amanda Satin Mini Satchel is, by my standards at least, kinda cute. There are disadvantages to using a material like satin (snagging!), but the advantage that Coach has realized is that it takes vivid color much better than almost any kind of leather. You get a sheen and brightness with satin that you don’t usually find in a handbag, and in small doses (this satchel is “mini,” after all) it can be a beautiful addition to an ensemble. I wouldn’t suggest buying a massive satin handbag, but something petite and bright could potentially be a lot of fun, methinks. Particularly at such a friendly price point.

OK, yeah, it's only been a day and I'm already going to break my resolution. This is not a collection worthy bag but hey, a girl has got to have fun, right? If you need to buy a whimsical bag for drab days and then pass it down to your teenage cousin when you're sick of it, you can do so with this for only $220!! Totally worthy of a throw away bag, this metallic purple alone holds enough virtue to justify the cost!! It is printed microfiber and if you think that that is cheesier than printed python on leather, well, you are right but you are wrong if you think that's a bad thing cuz two wrongs make a right in this case. It is so overly cheesy, like the jelly birkins, that it is actually edgy and cool. Besides, who cares? You get some attention, scoot around town with a flashy bag and all without sweating your wallet. It comes in bronze and silver but this purple is the ONLY one that is cheesy fab.

Bottega Veneta Intrecciato Multicolor Tote bags

When the name Bottega Veneta comes to mind, I think timeless, classic, and weaved leather. Any ideas why Picnic Blanket was the first thought that popped into my head when I ran into this piece? It’s called the Intrecciato multicolor tote and I don’t know about you ladies, but I’m definitely not feeling this piece. There’s just something about this plaid pattern that brings tablecloths to mind. I think a pattern like this should stay in the diner, not on your handbag. Let’s ignore the hues for a moment and admire the amazing craftsmanship of interwoven leather. As always, Bottega Veneta never fails to present a beautiful weaved piece. I adore the classic satchel shape that’s present and a full side-to-side zipper allows wide access to the interior of this bag, which is a plus in my book. I would like to note that the hues used on this bag are actually orange and cream, so that’s one small step away from an actual tacky tablecloth. What do you ladies think about this multicolore piece, and most importantly, would you wear this?

Admittedly not the most original, but the huge bursting rose on a handbag is unequivocally tantalizing, making the heart beat faster, the palms get sweaty, and thoughts of taking the pocketbook out for some major spending. Yes, it looks very much like the larger and maturer version of YSL’s Nadja, or more aptly, as if Nadja and the Muse had a child, and all their best qualities were passed down. It boasts top handles and a shoulder strap for when you want to carry more then your personal effects. The soft, smooshy leather is played up by the ruffles-cum-petals. Yes, yes, I know, it’s just not original to make it an iconic handbag…..but, isn’t imitation the highest form of compliment to an old friend (albeit it’s also a nod to Tom Ford and Stefano Pilati), and so that should be good enough to garner YOUR approval, yeah? Clocking in at about $2,400, it is available on pre-order at Neiman Marcus. Bold and feminine, austere and artful, roomy yet dressy….it’s quintessential Valentino.

Jil Sander does not make bags that scream 'it' which is exactly why I want them! Known for simple structure and elegant designs, Jil Sander bags always include a subtle element of surprise. Like the knotted buckle strap here-- it looks effortless and just gives it the bit of oomph it needs! The divided interior compartments will be super convenient for work or school and you can fit a laptop in it-- always a plus. The pale lavender is very feminine but the patent leather gives it a bit of edge. It will be fabulous with a chocolate brown dress now but in the spring wear it with white, nudes and all the gorgeous floral pieces heading to the stores! Not that this should influence your decision but the Buckle tote has been gracing the arms of Hollywood A-listers like January Allure cover girl Eva Mendes-- just thought I'd mention it.

You can have an attention grabbing handbag without the worry of looking too gaudy. Take, for example, the Tod’s Easy Sacca Grande. I have it pictured here in Saffron Yellow. Most people shy away from a yellow bag. But when you take the simple style of this bag into consideration, you really can’t deny that this would be such a fun bag for summer. The only thing I would change about this bag is the handles. I think handles that are the same color as the rest of the bag (or even white handles!) would suit this look much better. Overall, however, this bag would make a great choice for someone wishing to add a little color to their wardrobe.
